Campfire — Support
Something not working, or a question? Email sam.newman1212@gmail.com and a human will reply, usually within a day.
It helps if you say which iPhone you have and roughly when the problem happened, but do not worry if you cannot.
The things people ask most
I never got my sign-in email
Check your spam folder first. If it is not there, wait two minutes and ask for another one — occasionally the first is delayed. Still nothing? Email us and we will sort it out by hand.
The email contains both a button and a six-digit code. If tapping the button does not work, type the code into the app instead.
My recording did not turn into text
Your recording is safe. It is stored the moment you stop speaking, before anything else happens, and you can always play it back.
Open the entry and tap Try again. This usually happens because the signal dropped partway through. If it keeps failing, email us — the audio itself is not at risk.
Can I correct the text?
Yes, always. Open the entry and tap Correct this text. Nothing else ever edits your words — not us, and not any AI.
Once you have made a change, a link appears letting you see the original machine transcript, so you can always check what was first heard.
I want to record an answer again
Open the entry and tap Record this again. It will ask you to confirm, because it replaces what is there and cannot be undone.
I am not getting my weekly reminder
Three things to check, in order:
- Settings → The weekly nudge — is it switched on, and set to the day and time you expect?
- Has iOS blocked notifications? If the app says so, there is a button to take you to the right place in iOS Settings.
- Have you already written this week? If so, that is deliberate — we do not nudge you about something you have already done.
Can I have the questions read to me?
Yes. Tap Read aloud at the top of a conversation and each question is spoken in a British voice, so you can answer while driving or doing the washing up. It's off unless you turn it on, and turning it off makes it silent again.
You can speak your answers whether or not that's on — tap the microphone in the composer. Speaking and being spoken to are separate choices.
What are the follow-up questions?
Answering a week's question is a conversation. You reply, the app reads what you said and asks one thing that follows from it, and so on — usually two or three exchanges, sometimes fewer.
Answer any, all, or none of them. Ignoring them costs you nothing and the app will never chase you about it. Answers you do give are kept alongside that entry and appear in your export.
They come from a language model reading your entry. It asks questions and nothing else — it cannot and does not change a word of what you wrote. If one ever lands badly or asks something it shouldn't, please tell us; we can see exactly what was asked and fix it.
Can I get my writing out of the app?
Yes, whenever you like, with no request and no waiting. Settings → Send myself a copy gives you everything you have written as a plain text file you can email to yourself or keep in iCloud. It is readable in any text editor, forever, with or without us.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Delete my account. It genuinely deletes: your entries, your recordings, and your login. It is gone immediately and permanently within 30 days, once our host's automatic backups expire.
There is no undo.
Is this private?
Your entries are encrypted, stored in the EU, and no other user can reach them. We never use your words to train anything.
Your words leave in exactly three places: recordings go to a transcription service to be turned into text; what you write goes to Anthropic so we can think of a follow-up question about it; and if you switch on reading aloud, the question itself goes to the company that provides the voice. That last one sends the question only, never your answer — and if you leave it switched off, nothing goes to them at all.
To be straight with you: it is not end-to-end encrypted, so we could technically read your entries in the same way any service that stores your writing could. We do not. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
What do I actually get at the end?
At the moment: a year of weekly questions, your answers kept safely, and a copy you can export at any time.
The printed book is not built yet. When it is, we will say so — we would rather under-promise than tell you something is coming and leave you waiting.
